Best Time to Visit Kashmir: Season-by-Season Guide
Spring tulips, summer meadows, golden autumn or a snowy Gulmarg? Pick the right month for your Kashmir trip.
Kashmir changes character with every season, so the best time to visit Kashmir depends on what you want to see. This guide breaks the year down so you can match your dates to your plans.
Spring (March to May)
Spring brings blossoming gardens. The Tulip Garden in Srinagar is at its best in April, and the Mughal gardens of Chashme Shahi and Pari Mahal are lovely at this time. Days are cool and comfortable for sightseeing.
Summer (June to August)
Summer is the busiest season. Meadows in Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahalgam turn green, Aru Valley and Betaab Valley are easy to reach, and a shikara ride on Dal Lake is at its most pleasant. This is also the season for the Amarnath Yatra.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn means crisp air and golden chinar leaves. It is a quieter time to visit Srinagar, Pahalgam and Yusmarg, and a good choice for photographers and couples.
Winter (December to February)
Winter is for snow. Gulmarg turns white and the Gondola ride to Apharwat Peak is a highlight. Expect cold nights, so choose hotels with room heaters.
